Statement from the Board of Directors of the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority

To all our valued community members,

The delivery of health care and support for our community is core to who we are and what we do at the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA). The doctors and staff care deeply about the community’s well-being, working together to meet the healthcare needs of the James Bay Region – today and for generations ahead.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care/the North East Local Health Integration Network and the Federal Ministry of Health, we have built a plan that focuses on:

  • budget stability;
  • implementing our Hospital Improvement Plan;
  • enhancing communications with our communities and partners; and,
  • ultimately building a new hospital.

This vision comes from working together with a common approach of respect and consideration for the community, our patients and each other.

With respect to internet postings by Dr. John Waddell, WAHA does not agree with the statements that have been made concerning the delivery of healthcare within the health authority. It is also important to know that an appeal process where these matters are being considered is currently underway and will still take some time to conclude. In the meantime, we ask the community to allow this process to continue with respect and consideration.

We understand that community members may have questions about the decisions we make, or the processes we follow either in delivering care or managing WAHA and we invite you to speak with us. There are a number of ways that you can connect with the WAHA team, in Cree or English, including:
