Medical Staff

The medical staff of Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is committed to providing exceptional health care to all patients who utilize our facilities. This is fostered through the support of a culturally appropriate environment that makes every effort to ensure Cree translation services are provided, access to Traditional Healers and ceremonies are continuous and a courteous medical staff that are willing to go above and beyond to ensure the comfort and safety of patients.

Recently, WAHA introduced the development of a cultural awareness training program that will be incorporated into the staff orientation process. The creation of this program is designed to aid in enhancing staff competency and understanding of the region’s needs so that patient centered care becomes the central focus.

The medical staff at WAHA has years of training in their areas of expertise and work collaboratively to offer the best care possible to persons residing in WAHA’s communities on a daily basis. Working in remote areas, this staff enables patients to have access to health care services close to home while professionally diagnosing and treating patients.

WAHA’s medical staff is comprised of 12 family physicians, 1 anesthetist and 1 surgeon. As part of the medical team they work in the Family Medicine Clinic, provide coverage in the Emergency Department, perform the duties of hospital list and support medical services to coastal health and nursing stations.

WAHA’s medical staff also works collaboratively with Kingston General Hospital and the Timmins District Hospital on occasions where patients travel outside of the WAHA region for care.

“Our medical staff has years of training and are continuously looking to expand on their already vast medical knowledge. They come to work every day and aim to treat patients to the best of their ability. The dedication of our medical staff is truly amazing; they work exceptionally hard to support WAHA in providing quality patient care closer to home for people residing in our region,”

commented Michael Ouellette, Director of Family Medicine and Physician at Weeneebayko General Hospital.

As an organization, WAHA takes great pride in being the primary service and care provider for the communities it serves, through the efforts and dedication put forth by the medical staff.
