Addictions Medicine Service Transition March 1st, 2021

To our community members in Moose Factory and Moosonee:

We are pleased to announce that the Addictions Medicine program will transition from TrueNorth services to a revitalized WAHA service. We have a complement of clinicians (physicians and nurse practitioners) who will be providing services starting on March 1st, 2021 in the Family Medicine Clinic.

WAHA and TrueNorth have been doing their best to make this program accessible to clients, but we have faced many challenges in the operations, human resources, and funding of the service. WAHA and TrueNorth both agree the best way forward for WAHA is to focus limited resources available on building local capacity in terms of addiction support and treatment. WAHA appreciates the efforts that TrueNorth made over the past few years to step in and provide much needed addiction medicine support to the WAHA communities.

In January 2021, WAHA secured strategic plan funding from the North East LHIN and is now actively building a strategic plan for Addictions Services for the region moving forward. If you have any questions, please contact Megan Tomatuk in the Family Medicine Clinic.

Thank you,

Dr. Elaine Innes, Chief of Staff, WAHA
Sandra Kioke, VP Clinical and Community Care, Chief Nurse Executive, WAHA
