Sandra Kioke

Senior Vice President, and Chief Nurse Executive

Sandra began her nursing career with James Bay General Hospital in Attawapiskat and quickly learned to respect the uniqueness of the expanded clinical role in the remote setting. She met her husband Raymond in Attawapiskat and started a family, settling into the role of Wing Director for several years. Health care delivery in Indigenous communities became the focal point and trajectory for the majority of Sandra’s professional career.

After completing a research-based Master of Science degree at Queen’s University, Sandra and her family relocated to British Columbia where Sandra assumed many leadership positions. She worked in academic settings with a strong background in teaching nursing and community health at both the undergraduate/graduate levels. Within academia, she participated on many small and national research teams over the years. She provided administrative and consultant services to rural and remote First Nations communities throughout BC and Canada’s far north, for a variety of health service organizations.

Sandra joined WAHA in March 2019, as Vice President of Community Services. Additionally, she was the interim Chief Nursing Executive, eventually assuming her current role of Vice President of Clinical and Community Care, & Chief Nursing Executive in 2020.

Sandra strives to reach a true patient centred care approach and to support a continuous quality improvement model of care at WAHA. Her professional and personal goal centers on creating a space to value humility in service and learning through listening.

In her spare time, Sandra enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, travelling, and building on her commitment to be a life-long learner. In 2018, she completed her Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program and she is presently continuing her education with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Nursing, completing a Hospital and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification.
