2018-018 – Medical Laboratory Technologist – Moose Factory

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is now accepting applications for experienced professionals to fill the key role of Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Peawanuck. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. Position Profile Requirements:

  • Motivated professional who can work with minimal supervision
  • Strong knowledge of practice and regulations
  • Ability to perform shift work

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pre-hospital care in accordance with provincial regulation and organizational policies and procedures
  • Collection of blood samples using a closed collection system and micro collection techniques
  • Preforms tests and evaluations on samples, procedures, controls, and instigate appropriate action when necessary
  • Perform duties to maximize organizational and departmental performance
  • Works in coherence with policies and procedures


  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
  • Experience working in a health care setting is considered an asset
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences as a Laboratory Technologist in good standing
