Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Primary Care Paramedic. Internal competition

The Organization
Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Peawanuck. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. Position Profile Requirements:

  •  Demonstrated ability to work within team, while supporting each member in their roles
  •  Strong primary patient care skills
  •  Deep knowledge of paramedicine practice
  •  Ability to adapt to new and fast-changing settings
  •  Ability to live in a remote and isolated community

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Assessing the extent of injuries and illness of trauma victims, patients with respiratory and/or cardiac disease and stress
  •  Provide care to overdose and poisoning victims, industrial accident and exposure victims
  •  Determining emergency care required for patients
  •  Administering pre-hospital care in adherence to all organizational and professional guidelines and regulations


  •  Meet all requirements under the Ambulance Act of Ontario
  •  Hold a valid certificate signed by the Base Hospital Physician
  •  Ability to work shifts and stand-by duties
  •  Certification to perform semi-automatic external defibrillation, symptom relief, or willingness to obtain required
