Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2021

Don’t let the COVID-19 pandemic prevent you from taking care of yourself.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we want to remind you that it is safe to be screened for breast cancer.

Dr. Supriya Kulkarni, Regional Breast Imaging Lead for Northeastern Ontario says many clients may have put off booking breast cancer screening due to concerns about COVID-19.

“During the pandemic we have seen a dramatic reduction in appointments booked for breast screening, therefore I strongly encourage women between 50 and 74 to book their mammograms soon! The breast screening process is safe and so important to catching breast cancers when they are small, less likely to have spread and more likely be treated successfully.”

At the Northeast Ontario Breast Screening Program sites we provide a safe environment for breast screening and invite women ages 50 to 74 to contact your closest site to book your mammogram today!

To book a screening appointment, call 705-658-4544 ext. 2305 for the Ontario Breast Screening Program at Weeneebayko General Hospital in Moose Factory

If you have questions about the process or want to know about the benefits and limitations of breast screening, speak to your family physician or nurse practitioner first.
