Lynne Innes, President and CEO of the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of her leadership and dedication to improving healthcare across the western James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts.
The medal was formally presented to Lynne by Ontario Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, acknowledging her tireless efforts in securing funding for the WAHA Redevelopment Project—a historic initiative that will transform healthcare infrastructure and services for First Nations communities in the region. The Redevelopment Project includes the construction of a new regional hospital and health campus in Moosonee, along with new Elder Care Lodge care and an ambulatory care centre in Moose Factory.
A proud member of Moose Cree First Nation, Lynne has long been a driving force behind expanding healthcare access and equity in the north. Under her leadership, WAHA has introduced critical services like the first CAT scan and portable MRI in the region and has expanded access to specialists including cardiologists and optometrists. She also led the delivery of more than 200 COVID-19 vaccine clinics to remote First Nations communities during the pandemic.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal honours Canadians who have made significant contributions to their communities. Lynne’s award reflects her deep commitment to the health and well-being of the people in the region.
Congratulations, Lynne, and thank you for your vision, perseverance, and tireless service. Your work is shaping a healthier future for generations to come.
