News that we have begun to use our new computed tomography (CT) scanner was shared with our communities, partners and friends today.
Response to this significant achievement has been overwhelming positive and congratulatory because today marks the fulfillment of a commitment our Executive team made over a year ago to have a CT scanner here in our region.
“This is one of our first steps among many more, to advance the quality of care in our region by bringing access to services closer to home when it’s safe and makes clear sense to do so,” said Lynne Innes, President and CEO, Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA). “I want to thank our entire Executive team, Board of Directors and the Ontario Ministry of Health for making the CT scanner a reality.”
Most people will no longer have to travel outside the region for a CT scan to help diagnosis and treat things like strokes and concussions once the CT is fully operational.
WAHA has invested just over $2 million over the next ten years to purchase, renovate a space and cover service/maintenance fees for the CT scanner.
The CT scanner is located on the first floor of our Weeneebayko General Hospital site in Moose Factory and for now runs daily Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
