Patient, Family and Elder Advisory Council

The Patient, Family, and Elder Advisory Council (PFEAC) is a group of elders, patients, and family members or caregivers from our region who have experience with care and treatment at Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) sites or supported federal nursing stations along the western James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts.

The Council advises and supports the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority as we work to ensure the care we provide is culturally and traditionally appropriate, and of the highest quality. 

Who can be a member of the Council? 

Council members are: 

  • Living in or from one of the communities WAHA serves along the western James Bay and Hudson Bay coast 
  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older 
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference 
  • Willing to share your experiences, and listen to and respect other people’s perspectives
  • Able to always respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Available between one and four hours a month (Council members are compensated for their time)

What do Council members do? 

Council members: 

  • Work with WAHA staff on projects to improve services  
  • Share their WAHA experiences, good and bad, and bring an invaluable perspective to planning 
  • Review patient information material to ensure information is culturally appropriate
  • Give feedback on areas/ways WAHA can improve 
  • Help bridge the communication gap between WAHA and its communities 
  • Share feedback on policies that are relevant to traditional and cultural practices
