URGENT NOTICE – Cell Service Disruption

As of this morning, we are experiencing widespread cell service and landline disruptions. This outage is impacting the ability to make or receive phone calls, including emergency calls to 911 and direct lines to local health centers.

This outage was caused by a construction crew working in the rail yard, who ignored the locate markings and severely damaged a section of the fibre line. Repair crews have been dispatched and are currently on-site working to restore service.

The estimated time to restore communications is currently 12 to 16 hours, with service expected to be restored around 4:00 a.m. on July 25.

Code Grey Activation

In response to this disruption, WAHA has activated a Code Grey, which is declared when there is a loss or failure of essential services, such as communications systems. This ensures that all staff are operating under emergency protocols to maintain patient care and safety during this time.

Emergency Medical Assistance

If any community members require urgent medical assistance, encourage them to call their local health center directly.

If phone contact is unsuccessful, encourage them to immediately go in person to your nearest health center or hospital.

In addition, we have placed Ambulance units outside of all health centers apart from Peawanuck, to support individuals in urgent need on site.
