The Weeneebayko General Hospital (WGH) Laboratory provides high-quality medical laboratory services in a welcoming, patient-centered environment. Our dedicated team operates 24/7, 365 days a year, supporting hospital inpatients, emergency department patients, and outpatient phlebotomy services.
Outpatient collection services are available Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. (no appointment necessary).
We perform over 120,000 tests every year and are committed to delivering excellence in patient care through accurate and timely results.

Our laboratory is:

- Accredited by: Accreditation Canada – Diagnostics
- Aligned with: ISO 15189:2022 requirements for quality and competence.

WAHA operates four laboratory sites across the region:
- Weeneebayko General Hospital (Moose Factory) – Main testing facility
- Attawapiskat Hospital
- Fort Albany Hospital
- Moosonee Health Centre
The WGH Laboratory and Outpatient Collection Department are located on the first floor of the hospital.

NOTE: The laboratory is not permitted to release test results directly to patients. If you are looking for results or have questions about your test results, please contact your local Family Medicine Clinic and request an appointment for lab test review.
Testing Services
All tests are conducted upon consultation with a licensed provider.
Sample Collection and Analysis
- Most patient samples from WAHA sites are sent to the WGH Laboratory for processing.
- Our lab sits collect and analyze a variety of specimens, including blood, urine, and other body fluids.
- Routine tests offered include:
- Biochemistry and Immunochemistry
- Urinalysis
- Blood Gases
- Hematology and Coagulation
- Sterile Body Fluid Analysis and Gram Stain
- Transfusion Medicine Services
 
Turnaround Times
- Outpatients: Most test results available within 24 hours (if processed at WGH).
- Inpatients and Emergency Cases: Results prioritized and processed as quickly as possible.
- Referred Tests: Timelines vary depending on the external testing facility.
Collaboration and Feedback
The WGH Laboratory works closely with WAHA’s coastal sites, internal departments, and other hospitals to support healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating patients effectively.
WAHA also has a Patient, Family, and Elder Advisory Council (PFEAC). Members of the council may share their experiences and perspectives to support patient and family-centred planning and decision-making. The WGH Laboratory may also request PFEAC to review items to ensure cultural appropriateness.
Finally, everyone is encouraged to share positive or negative feedback through the Quality Department’s Compliments and Complaints page.

For specialized testing, samples may be referred to partner laboratories, including:

Note: Some external tests may not be covered by OHIP and could involve additional costs. Patients are informed before samples are collected.
