To all our valued community members,

This is an update to our News Release on August 21, 2017 where we explained that an appeal process was underway at the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (HPARB) regarding the WAHA Board of Director’s (Board) decision of March 7, 2017 regarding Dr. John Waddell (Board Decision). In that Decision, the Board accepted the decision of WAHA’s Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) recommending against Dr. Waddell’s reappointment or appointment to WAHA’s Professional Staff. HPARB is an independent adjudicative agency with a review and appeal mandate, that includes, among other things, holding hearings concerning physicians’ hospital privileges under the Public Hospitals Act.

The HPARB Hearing took place from November 2017 to February 2018.

In a decision released on May 8, 2018 (HPARB Decision), the HPARB confirmed the Board Decision regarding Dr. Waddell, providing detailed reasons for doing so.
